Project Context
MabarVIP was born from the unique culture of the Indonesian gaming community called mabar (playing together) — where streamers open gaming sessions with viewers who are willing to pay to participate. No platform is truly designed for this need, so many streamers manage queues manually through comments, which is inefficient and condition-prone. I built MabarVIP as an end-to-end solution using Laravel 12 as the main backend with MySQL and Redis. The core feature of this application is a real-time queuing system: when a viewer pays (supports QRIS, BCA/BNI/Mandiri virtual accounts, OVO, Dana), the system automatically creates a queue entry and sends a QueueUpdated event via Laravel Reverb to all connected clients — including the OBS overlay streamer. This overlay can be directly installed in the OBS scene as a source browser, displaying a position queue that is always in sync without the need for reloading.
The Challenge
The biggest challenge was building a truly synchronous real-time queue between the streamer dashboard, OBS overlay, and public pages, without relying on expensive polling — in the shared hosting ecosystem commonly used in Indonesia.
Our Engineered Solution
I integrated Laravel Reverb as a lightweight, self-hosted first-party WebSocket server, so that any queue state changes are instantly broadcast to all clients via the QueueUpdated event on the queue.{streamerId} channel, with AJAX polling fallback for WebSocket-blocking environments.
The Business Impact
The platform has successfully served more than 2,000 active streamers, processed total withdrawals exceeding IDR 1.5 million, with a payment system that supports 8+ local methods and a callback success rate that is maintained through MD5 signature validation and duplicate protection.
